Our 50 year old kitchen had, shall we say, lost its luster. Now, after just a few weeks, It is all new and pretty, so much more functional and roomy enough for “helpers” to cook with me.
Kitchens Made Simple accomplished this make-over with their experienced staff and their formula for success. Phase one was designing with Rob’s expertise to rework the galley layout to include as many new features as I could think up; while keeping the budget always in mind. Together we perfected that plan inch by inch. I was given options, fully explained, on all the decisions with costs compared for every detail.
In Phase two, the project work was managed by Doug, and this stage went far smoother than I expected. It was a short four weeks (small kitchen) of watching the new room come together. All of the tradesmen who worked in our home were pleasant, respectful and efficient. Their work was expertly finished. I couldn’t be happier with the results: a beautiful, inviting, functional kitchen.
First impressions are everything, and I knew when walking through the door at KMS for the first time without any appointment that they were the company for me. Rob greeted me and listened to my questions and made me feel so at ease. A week later he came out, took measurements, listened to my ideals and came up with a design. This was going to be a major overhaul with knocking out walls and expanding into two living rooms spaces.
Because I was doing this remodel alone, I needed a company that would listen, but also help me in some of my choices, plus hire out all the sub-contractors. The KMS crew always showed up on time.
We only went 1 week over the schedule, yes, there were a few minor things that came up, but anything that I wanted fixed or touched up at the end was done, yes I went over budget but that was because I added a few things that wasn’t in the budget to begin with. The entire team from Rob, Doug and his crew, granite guy, flooring, electrician was great to work with.
Not going to lie, living through a major remodel for 2 months isn’t fun, and my motto was, and this too shall pass. When it was finally over, I had tears of happiness, it’s just BEAUTIFUL & PRICELESS. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE my kitchen and all the extra things that also got done in the house. I would HIGHLY recommend KMS. I’m planning on using them again later down the road to do new counters/flooring in the bathrooms.
Lorna & I were considering a kitchen make-over, we saw your ad in the St Paul paper and decided to give ‘Kitchens Made Simple’ a call.
Everything from the first meeting with Rob, brainstorming ideas, measurements, design, choosing cabinets, countertops and an open concept design was a pleasure. Rob was always there to answer our questions.
We expressed to Rob when we would like to have the date of completion. We were contacted by Doug in advance of the starting date. On that date, Doug went over what was going to happen over the next 7 – 8 weeks. He had a list of what & when demo, electrical, permit checks, plumbing, sheetrock, painting, flooring, cabinets installed, and the long wait for granite would happen and the installation of new appliances.
It was a pleasure to watch the entire project come together as scheduled and on time.
Thanks to all involved, you were great to work with.
We love our new kitchen and strongly recommend ‘Kitchens Made Simple’ to anyone considering a kitchen makeover.
It was a pleasure doing business with Kitchens Made Simple. We began with several meetings with Rob, our designer, to plan the kitchen remodel. With our kitchen design completed, we met with Doug, our project manager, to formulate a plan and timeline to make our kitchen a reality. Doug’s plan moved along like clockwork from week to week. The crews are friendly professionals who take pride in their work. There were plenty of drop clothes to limit the mess to the rest of our living space and good clean up at the end of the day. Projected timeline to complete was 5 weeks. The project was completed in 5 weeks. I commend Kitchens Made Simple for doing what they said they were going to do in the time they said they were going to do it. We thank you for our beautiful kitchen.
We had a fantastic kitchen remodel experience with Kitchens Made Simple. They made the entire process comfortable and painless. We trusted them and they did not disappoint. We LOVE our new kitchen. Their help in selecting materials and colors was so easy and turned out perfectly. Rob was a smooth designer. Doug was spot-on on his project timetable and management. We always knew what to expect, and he was calm and reliable. John did fantastic quality of labor, and we were completely at ease having Kitchens Made Simple’s teams in our home even when we were not there. We appreciated the fact that almost all the work was done by a few of Kitchens Made Simple’s own employees, and not many teams of subcontractors with many strangers always coming through. The final product is worth every penny. We feel we got a fantastic value for our money with Kitchens Made Simple. We will recommend them to our friends with no hesitations.
Kitchens Made Simple did an excellent job turning my kitchen into a masterpiece. Because it’s a smaller company, I got to know the workers. If I had a concern about anything they did, I could just ask them. They had a work timeline and they stuck to it. Also, they used drop cloths to protect my furniture and floors. I would use this company again in a heartbeat.
My husband and I were total renovation virgins and had no clue where to begin to redesign our awkward and ugly kitchen. Our home was built in 1947 and came with a lot of character and a lot of “projects”. After purchasing a design deal on Angie’s list, we called KMS and set up an initial appointment for Charles to come out and get some measurements and have an initial discussion of what our challenges were. Charles was great – he was able to come in and immediately see the potential in a space that we had completely given up on and he also gave us some ideas on things that we could do ourselves to keep the cost of the renovation down. Next, we met with Jaqlyn to review her initial design and get a better understanding of the cost by line item. Her initial design was amazing – she made our tiny, cramped kitchen look spacious and organized – and it stayed true to the period of the home which was really important to us. After a few discussions and some minor tweaks and changes we were able to finalized the design. Jaqlyn was SO patient with us and never seemed annoyed with the frequent phone calls for changes. Once we had settled on the design we got the quote for cost – and it came in over our budget and for a moment we thought all hope was gone, but Jaqlyn and Charles had a back up plan for us that satisfied all of our needs and met our budget. KMS was so great to work with during design that we couldn’t imagine not having them not doing the renovation so we decided to proceed with KMS to perform the work. After about 4 weeks, Doug reached out to us to meet and go over the renovation timeline, what we should expect and to do a walk through of the site. His team started the following Monday with demo and things were underway. I can’t say enough good things about Doug and his team. They were on time, very professional and treated my home with the care in which they would treat their own. Doug was onsite frequently and really made sure that the team delivered quality that he felt comfortable putting the KMS name behind. We ordered laminate counter tops which were built onsite and looked great – except for the color variation that happened at the seem right under the pendulum light at the sink. When we brought this to Doug’s attention he immediately set forth to fix it – he had the counter top guy come back in and redo the section in order to find a better color match. Talk about amazing customer service! We were SO impressed and pleased that we had found a company that treated each kitchen as if it were there own, and that not only customer satisfaction was important, but that the job was done right was important as well. So cool! Overall, KMS completed the job ahead of schedule and on budget – and very professionally! We will definitely use them again when it comes time to remodel the bathroom!
We got the remodeling bug after visiting the spring home show. We used Angie’s List to find local kitchen remodelers. After talking with several remodelers about our plans we were most impressed by the willingness of the people at KMS to work with us and not push only their ideas. We met with Jaqlyn on numerous occasions over a period of months as we educated ourselves and decided what we wanted in our new kitchen. Jaqlyn was always very pleasant and willing to rework the plans as needed by our design decisions. Once the design was finalized and the cabinets ordered, Doug outlined the remodeling schedule. The only deviations from the schedule were the result of structural problems discovered during the demolition phase that needed addressing and some incorrect items shipped by the cabinet company that needed to be reordered. Doug, Rob and Jaqlyn worked hard to get the hiccups addressed in a timely fashion. We are very happy with the professionalism and high quality of work of all the KMS staff. The subcontractors they used also did very good work, especially Dana who installed the new countertop. We are very happy with our new kitchen and highly recommend the team at KMS.
We met with the friendly and professional designer, Kay, on numerous occasions over a period of 4 months (we were gone for the winter for two of those months.) She provided us excellent ideas, suggestions, and was very helpful and accommodating to us as we educated ourselves and made decisions on what we wanted to have in our new kitchen. We made many changes during this time, and on every change, Kay was there to help us. She pointed out a few planning “mistakes” we had made, and used her wealth of knowledge to refine our ideas so we would achieve the results that we wanted. Kay showed us our computer model new kitchen, and then printed out the computer “model” pictures so we could take then home and visualize how our new kitchen would look while we were still considering many additional details. We finally ordered our cabinets, and then waited for 5-6 weeks for the cabinets to arrive. We worked on other details of lighting and appliances during this time, purchasing our new appliances, moving heating ducts, contracted other miscellaneous jobs like painting the walls and ceiling, installing a new floor, etc. Besides the $21000 we spent with KMS, we spent almost that much more on the flooring, appliances, lighting, bar stools, granite countertops and installation of those features. The people at KMS were outstanding. They were very knowledgeable, interesting, helpful and fun to work with. They were professional and good natured. They knew what they were doing, and they did it well. Rob and his helper, Joe, did an outstanding job of professionally installing our cabinets. We had a couple of small hiccups, and Rob immediately resolved these issues, did want we asked, and we were very, very happy with the outcome, and are proud of our amazing new kitchen. We would definitely contract KMS again if we decide to design another kitchen. Great quality, and a great experience. We were fortunate to find Kitchens Made Simple through an Angie’s List offer concerning kitchen design from KMS exactly when we needed them. We would definitely like to compliment and to thank the entire KMS staff who helped us make our dream kitchen a reality.
We have no experience doing a major home project, so we went to Angie’s list and found five contractors who gave us their recommendations on how to remodel our master bathroom. Two estimates came in relatively close, one contractor disappeared never to heard from again, the last two only wanted to repaint our bathroom and install a new shower. KMS Associates came in and really listened to our ideas. They completely gutted our bathroom (with our approval). KMS designer, Paul, who we liked immediately, helped us visualize what we could do with the bathroom and included estimated costs. His help was so valuable to us. We then began to choose the floor and wall tiles; hardware; mirrors; shower glass; tub; fixtures; and cabinets. Before the project began, we met the project manager, Doug. He’s very knowledgeable, organized, experienced and calm. When issues came up, Doug and his team sought solutions that prevented untimely changes and rework. The whole project was on schedule except for the shower glass, which arrived 7 days late. We absolutely recommend KMS for your bathroom projects. The skill of the KMS workers is high and professional. Our bathroom is now a beautifully crafted spa instead of just a repainted, new shower bathroom. Great work KMS. Thank you.
Our newly remodeled kitchen by Kitchens Made Simple, was a renovation that turned our 1980’s kitchen into a beautiful 21st Century Great Room. Our vision for the remodel became a reality with the expertise and the craftsmanship of all the professionals we came in contact with through KMS. We solicited bids from 5 contractors, and narrowed our choices to two contractors. Our final selection was based on perceived overall value, ability to deliver within the scope of the project (no change orders), and how engaging they were from the start; KMS was the top choice in this regard. After the completion of the project, we believe KMS did deliver the best overall value (price, quality, professionalism) and we are extremely satisfied with the end result. The designer (Pam) was creative, working with our vision, was engaging from the start, provided multiple solutions at various price points, and was thoughtful in her style, as well as the contractors, who skillfully took those designs and made this wonderful space that we enjoy today; from what was a kitchen, dining room, and living room into one Great Room. The project involved the removal of walls, ceiling modifications, engineered drawings, and structural considerations, so it was not a simple replacement and upgrade project. Everyone involved, whether KMS employees or the few sub-contractors they utilized, were very skilled and delivered excellent results. KMS made it easy to make accommodations to perform any of the work ourselves. Considering our busy schedules, we drafted the contract to have all the work performed by KMS, but agreed on multiple credits, should we decide to perform some of the work ourselves, which we did to some degree. Of the few project challenges that did arise, they worked with us to provide remedies and/or mitigation, and all of these challenges were overcome to our satisfaction. Overall, KMS and their employees were a great group to work with, delivered excellent results, and we highly recommend their services. This posting comes 10 months after the project was completed, so it may be more relevant, as we have had time to reflect, having lived in the new space for awhile, and are better able to assess the overall utilization of the space and the value KMS provided. To that end, we couldn’t be happier or more satisfied with the results and value, and continue to enjoy the transformation this has made in our daily lives.
We love our kitchen! KMS was a pleasure to work with. Doug and Daniel did a fabulous job installing and our kitchen looks great. They were cheerful everyday, and everything was always cleaned up when they left so the disruption of having a kitchen torn out was as minimal as it could possibly be. They had great attention to detail – our backsplash looks great and even small things like knob placement were done very well. The design staff was knowledgeable, and helped us make choices that we loved but also stayed within our budget. We had an idea of what we wanted when we came in, but were pleasantly surprised by how fast our designer was able to make it come together. After completing the design, we decided to keep the soffits, and the design staff worked with us right away to modify the design. The contractors that KMS called in were very professional as well. The granite guys did a great job. The flooring guy did our kitchen floor and refinished the floors in the first floor as well, and they all look great. We would use KMS again in a heartbeat.
We’ve never done anything like this, that took so much design and decision making where neither Sue nor I had any experience or even paid attention to kitchen trends. It was incredibly intimidating for us, and you helped us through it so professionally. I’m sure my questions about details, where I had no previous experience, drove you crazy. You’re a saint, for educating us, giving us great ideas, and helping us find a design that we both love.
Our very small kitchen had been renovated more than 25 years ago, with custom-made white cabinets, black-and-white tiled countertops and a peninsula. I wanted to get rid of the peninsula, add more cabinets, and create a pass-through to the dining room with countertop and seating – all on a tight budget. Nancy’s ingenious design provided all that, and lots of style as well. She gave me lots more cabinet and counter space, and so much room to move around. The kitchen looks and feels twice as big, and it is so beautiful! It was an absolute pleasure working with Rob. He reworked and reused cabinets and drawers, managed to under-mount the original over-mount sink, and created wonderful woodwork around the pass-through that looks like it has always been in our 100-year old cottage. I now have a modern, beautiful kitchen that was created on a budget and looks like a million dollars – thanks to Nancy, Rob and the crew at Kitchens Made Simple.
Kitchens made simple is a wonderful company to work with. As a business owner, we understand how important our clients are and this company holds those same values. Their work is outstanding, their customer service is outstanding, and we can confidently say we would recommend them to anyone that wants to remodel their kitchen. We love our new kitchen! Thank you!
KMS removed existing cabinets from the kitchen and installed new cabinets. KMS also installed granite countertops and sanded and refinished the existing hardwood floors. They also installed recessed lighting and a new ceiling fan. Minor plumbing was also done, i.e. new garbage disposer and moving the dishwasher. The walls and ceiling in the kitchen were painted. I was most impressed by the professional and sincere attitude of all the folks at KMS (Pam, Charles especially). Everyone gave me the feeling I was receiving personal, individualized service and they wanted the kitchen to be exactly what I envisioned. They were very accommodating to the various changes requested even after supplies had been purchased and went out of their way to help select products and finishes. I now have a terrific, new kitchen which was designed and constructed by an exceedingly trustworthy company. Thanks to all at KMS.
I had a great experience working with Kitchens Made Simple. From the very beginning in the design process to the finishing touches, the people that I worked with were great. Pam, the designer, was able to get me an island which is something I never thought my small kitchen could have. It is on wheels so if I need to move it out of the way, it can be easily done. Their flexibility allowed me to do some of the demo and painting myself. The beautiful cabinets that we chose have given me much more storage capacity than before. Each appliance has a home is able to be stored away out of sight Doug and Rob and the rest of the crew did fantastic work on the installation as well as the subcontractors. They were all very professional and were able to work with me when I made a change to the original plan. The project was finished in the time-line they provided. I would definitely work with Kitchens Made Simple again, and would highly recommend them. They provide quality work as a reasonable price.
We visited KMS for assistance in re-doing our kitchen. After 32 years we needed to do something. Pam and Doug and the entire crew at KMS were top-shelf! We engaged KMS for the cabinets, counter top, sink, electrical work, assistance with the re-do on the ceiling after I removed the soffett. We took care of the new floor and the wall preparation. This was a big job for us and even though it may not have been the biggest job for KMS we were treated as if it was. When they said they would be there they were. When an order was miss-sent there were no arguments only a quick request for the correct items to be ordered and shipped to us for installation. They always cleaned up, they picked up both in the kitchen and in the garage where we staged may pieces prior to installation. I have never gone through this before and it was for all that took place a painless event. In a heartbeat I would recommend this firm to anyone, they care about their customers and they do very professional work. Thanks.
We had KMS completely remodel our small south Minneapolis kitchen. Complete demo, installation of cabinets, flooring, counter-tops, existing & new appliances, lighting, all necessary plumbing and electrical changes, etc… The group at KMS were GREAT to work with right from the start! They came out and did an assessment of the existing kitchen, took measurements and gave us a ball park cost. The design person that we worked with was wonderful to work with and was very helpful in explaining the process, decisions that needed to be made, etc… Once we made all the necessary decisions on cabinets, flooring, counter-tops, etc…they got started right away. They worked quickly, but professionally, understanding that people do not want to wash their dishes in their bathroom for months! They also helped us work within our budget as best they could. From demo to finish, the project took 5-6 weeks. Ultimately, they did an excellent job and were very flexible working with us on change-orders. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and would highly recommend Kitchens Made Simple to anyone considering a kitchen remodel.
We wanted to open up and rearrange our kitchen to create a more family-friendly environment. Nancy designed a space for us that perfectly meets the needs of our family. We love it! Now I can work in the kitchen while talking to my kids or watching them play in the living room. Doug did an incredible job managing all the details and different people that were needed to get it done. And we really appreciated how well they worked around our inquisitive little “helpers”!
We LOVE our new kitchen. We have lived in our home for 41 years and have only done minor updates through the years. We saw a Kitchens Made Simple ad in the St Paul paper and decided now was the time to do something major. We had no idea what we wanted exactly but we needed a whole new updated kitchen. We talked to Nancy and she was fantastic. She suggested things we would have never thought of doing. Her ideas made our kitchen more functional and made better use of our space. When the bid was a little higher than what we wanted to spend she worked with us to get the cost in our price range, without sacrificing quality. Doug and his crew were great! When they left they cleaned up the mess each day and if something wasn’t right they corrected the problem right away. Thanks to all who worked on our Kitchen. We would recommend KMS to anyone who was thinking of doing their kitchen.
Our kitchen was “made simple” and very beautiful with our remodel this spring. We replaced cabinets with Starmark, flooring and counter tops. The designer Nancy worked with us to create a better layout. We found her very knowledgeable and took care of many details putting things together. The rest of the crew did a great job doing the work. The few problems that occurred were addressed right away and taken care of. The workmanship was great. The tile floor we had done was laid out perfectly. The guys showed up when they said they would, and finished things well. We feel we got a good remodel that was reasonably priced and done well. I would recommend KMS to others without hesitation.
Everyone who walks into our new kitchen says “Wow this is terrific!” We asked Kitchens Made Simple to update our 1976 kitchen without changing the footprint of the house and they did, indeed, turn it into a wow kitchen that is more efficient and easy to prepare meals in. They trippled the lighting, added a deeper sink, took out the old popcorn ceiling finish, changed it to a cleaner knock-down finish, took down and rebuilt a wall, changed the cabinets, added wood flooring and installed new counter tops. All the people working on the project were experts who did high-quality work. They completed the project in two months. (They estimated 6 weeks and likely would have met that schedule had we not had to reorder our flooring due to a manufacturer’s problem with the original order.) We love our new kitchen!
Once again we find ourselves sitting at our new kitchen island doing two things, admiring the view and wondering how we ever managed with the old kitchen. The kitchen has been done for a few months now but we still are in awe of the project and how it has exceeded all of our expectations. What a wonderful team to work with at Kitchens Made Simple. We knew when we met with Nancy and the Team it was going to be a great project. No hidden surprises with construction or costs. They even cleaned up after themselves! Thank you to the KMS Team for a great kitchen! Job well done.
My kitchen is done and it is time for a review. I had 3 kitchen remodelers out for an estimate and choose Kitchens Made Simple. Rob Barta, owner, listened to all my wishes requests, wants, requirements and when I was through, we discussed a few other options that I hadn’t thought of. All through the process, he listened and was so patient with a sometimes frazzled unsure, me. He is the best at what he does. He figured out functionality and he knows when to suggest other possibilitites without making me feel silly for my crazy desires.
Mike, the electrician, brought to my space lighting and outlets the likes of which I knew not much about. He gave me everything I asked for and more, he was great. My space had been so dark and he brought me light, lots of beautiful light.
Tim, the carpenter, well I don’t have words enough for him. The word phenomenal might come close. He was precise, exact, perfection. When I just didn’t know how something would look he drew it and even sent pics by phone when I was at work to make sure it was the way I wanted it before moving forward.
Joyce, wife of owner, the all around can do anything person. She kept me straight financially. She was prompt with correspondence and calmed me down when things seemed like I needed it.
The whole team is about working together with the homeowner as each aspect changes along the way and I never had to fear that they would just do something to get it done whether I liked it or not. It was thought out, drawn, discussed, planned and executed all along the project in complete collaboration with us.
The end result is a kitchen of my dreams. After waiting 30 years to change this dysfunctional space it is now shear beauty. Thank you Kitchens Made Simple team. I would not hesitate to recommend you for large or small projects. You were great to work with.
Thank you. Chuck and Joelle Knopf
