The park was built in the early 1900s to honor Civil War veterans and was named after the famous St. Paul fairgrounds’ Gold Medal Park. The park was designed as an outdoor amphitheater and included a carousel, bandstands, and concession stands. In 2006, Gold Medal Park was renovated to include a variety of contemporary amenities, such as a new children’s playground, a sculpture garden, outdoor event spaces, and public art.
